Hundreds of islanders enjoyed a cup of warm soup whilst raising over £17,000 for a local homelessness charity at yesterday's Soup Kitchen.
The Shelter Trust's annual event featured 40 different soups created by community groups and some of the island’s top hotels and restaurants.
There was also festive music and carol singing performed by school and island choirs, with chilly, drizzly conditions doing little to puncture the festive air.
The Shelter Trust's treasure Richard Robins today revealed that the event raised £17,500 for the local charity – which supports an average of 600 homeless people a year.
He said: "This is the second highest we’ve ever raised – last year’s anniversary year pipping this year’s total to the post because of some exceptional anniversary donations.
"We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated soups, supported the event and joined us on the day.
"This is an important day in the annual Shelter Trust calendar and funds raised will go towards providing essential meals to those who need them most, both through meals served in one of Shelter Trust’s seven sites or distributed through our outreach programme."
