CHARITY TREASURES: A Royal designer's hidden find

Thursday 11 July 2024

A matching set designed by one of Queen Elizabeth II's favourite fashion designers has popped up in a local charity shop – and islanders are being encouraged to make an offer on the rare piece.

The shirt and trouser ensemble was discovered earlier this week by a charity shop veteran who is using social media to spread the love for second-hand shopping.

Bargain enthusiast Fiona Walker recently set up social media pages under the name 'Upstylejersey24' to showcase interesting items found and encourage islanders to do their own digging for treasure to support good causes.

Express is partnering with her to showcase her favourite bargains each week...

This week’s favourite find was a matching shirt and trouser combination by British fashion designer Hardy Amies.  MixCollage-10-Jul-2024-01-33-PM-5366.jpg

Fiona said: “Hardy Amies was best known as one of Queen Elizabeth II’s favourite dress designers.

“I can’t quite imagine her in this outfit; in fact, I can’t even work out if it’s a suit or pyjamas!

“Perhaps you could wear it to the races…if you have oodles of confidence!”

Staff at the Salvation Army charity shop are inviting interested parties to make an offer for this item.

FIND YOUR OWN TREASURE...

The Salvation Army hub at Minden Place offers a place for worship, social action, and community support.

The Christian Church and charity offer practical assistance for vulnerable islanders - including electrical vouchers and food parcels -  and operate a community cafe serving free soup daily. You can donate to the charity here.

If you want to support it by making a visit to the charity shop, here's where to head...
