Grand day out for Charleen

Thursday 04 September 2014

One of the Island’s five star hotels has a special guest moo-ooving in this month - a Jersey cow!

Charleen will be greeting visitors at her pop-up farm at the Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa on 14 September to celebrate the World Jersey Cheese Awards.

Cheese makers from around the world are competing against local producers and entering cheeses made from 100% Jersey milk - all looking to clinch the title of World’s Best Jersey Cheese.

The cheese fest will be a chance for Islanders to go along and taste all the organic and artisan cheeses produced for the hotel by Charleen and the other cattle at local producers - Classic Herd.

Classic Herd’s Julia Quénault said: “The Jersey cow is a global success story and it is something that we should be celebrating here in Jersey. There’s going to be lots to see and do at the festival and we are hoping that people will come along and share our passion for cheese, dairy produce and the delightful Jersey cow.”

The World Jersey Cattle Bureau set up the awards in 2008 which this year will be held in South Africa during the Bureau’s 20th annual conference from 12 to 20 September.

The cheese-tasting is free but visitors will be encouraged to donate £1 to the Hotel’s chosen charity which this year is Headway.
