One week until the Christmas lights switch-on

The town centre's Christmas lights will be turned on next week – and the Parish of St Helier is promising the event will be “better than ever”.

Next Thursday (16 November), islanders are invited to join the annual Christmas parade from 16:30 starting at Millennium Park or can wait for Santa at the Christmas Village at the Weighbridge.

There, they will be able to enjoy food, drink, live music, and stalls, with the big finale and lights switched on at 20:00.

“The Christmas Lights Switch On marks the official start of the festive period in the Town Centre. We are delighted that the event is back after a hiatus due to covid and adverse weather," said Town Centre Events Manager Connor Burgher.

Adding to the festive spirit, an ice rink will also be set up at the Weighbridge from 17 November and a series of Genuine Jersey Christmas Markets will be held over three weekends in the Royal Square between 23 November and 10 December.

The Grand Hotel has also announced that it will be hosting its first-ever Christmas market in the Grand Suite on December 6. Shoppers can browse handmade crafts and Christmas gifts, including candles, diffusers, pottery, jewellery, and ceramics.

There will also be festive food and mulled wine made by the hotel’s chef Nic Valmagna, with funds going towards Grand Jersey’s charity of choice, Brighter Futures.

Tim O’Sullivan, the General Manager of the Hotel, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting this special Christmas market and spreading some seasonal cheer with the help of our specially selected exhibitors. We promise there’ll be plenty of present ideas here, even for the trickiest person to buy for!”
