Covid-19 deaths rise to 10

The number of islanders confirmed to have died with covid-19 now stands at 10 - a rise of three in the past 24 hours.

The figures were released at 18:15, showing that 223 islanders are officially confirmed to have the virus.

Meanwhile, 1,646 tests have returned a negative result and 66 remain pending.

 The spate of confirmed deaths in the past 24 hours brings the total recorded this week alone to seven.

Members of the public have been calling for a breakdown of those confirmed to currently have the illness, as well as those recorded as having died with it.

Guernsey has released such a breakdown, showing that the youngest islander to be infected was zero, while the oldest was 99.

The island's data also showed that care home staff and care home residents together account for more than a third of current cases.

At a press conference this afternoon, Jersey's Chief Minister was asked about the number of cases in local care homes - this month, a 'cluster' of 17 patients was identified in a single premises - and said he would endeavour to share this information.

He reaffirmed that the government would also soon be releasing recovery statistics.
