From Japanese million dollar prints to the works of a British national treasure, French surrealist, and LGBTQ+ icon, a St Helier art gallery has shared a sneak preview of what it has in store for 2025...
After a festive break, Private & Public Gallery has an "ambitious line-up" taking shape with some "must-see" content for "all art lovers" this year.
Gallery director Chris Clifford told Express about what's coming up...

The impact of Japanese contemporary artists on the international art market has never been so strong, and in this, our first exhibition of 2025, we showcase works by the most notable Japanese artists of the era.
Unique pieces and prints by Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and Yoshimoto Nara, whose auction records are $15 million, $10.9 million, and $25 million respectively, will be featured.
The gallery spaces will be beautifully curated, and the preview evenings will also showcase elegant Japanese lighting design to accompany authentic cuisine paired with sake and shochu.

No artist had a greater impact on the global art market in the 20th century than the New York-based artist Andy Warhol, whose Pop Art portraits of actors, musicians, and politicians captured the spirit of the age.
In this summer exhibition, Private & Public Gallery will showcase a large selection of his most iconic portraits, including Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, and Chairman Mao, which highlight the artist's obsession with popular culture, fame, and celebrity.
September 2025
The groundbreaking work of the French surrealist artist Claude Cahun is far-reaching as it challenged traditional gender roles and explored themes of identity, resistance, and bold self-expression.
In many ways, she can be viewed today as the standard-bearer of the LGBTQ+ movement, and so it is with great pleasure that we present works by national treasure Grayson Perry, who is famous for his ceramic vases, tapestries, and cross-dressing, as well as his observations on the contemporary art market and for dissecting British prejudices, fashions, and foibles.
December 2025
Now, at the age of 87, David Hockney is widely recognised as one of the most important living British artists, having continually reinvented his style with extended periods of studio time in London, Paris, Los Angeles, and his native North Yorkshire.
Most recently, the artist has settled just over the water in Normandy, where his portraits, seascapes, and landscapes remind us of the Plein Air works of the great post-impressionists such as Van Gogh, Cezanne, and Gauguin.
This world-class exhibition is a must-see for art lovers and the serious collector.
