Tribute event to be held in memory of “special” and “caring” skater

Thursday 19 December 2024

A tribute event is set to be held at a skate shop tomorrow evening to celebrate the life of a “special” and “caring” 25-year-old skateboarder who died earlier this month.

Friends, family, and the skating community will gather at Consume on Halkett Street to honour the memory of Danny Cram, who took his own life on 2 December.

The event, which is set to start at 18:30 on Friday, is open to all who wish to pay tribute to a man whose passion for skateboarding and support for others left a lasting impact on many.

Danny was a well-loved figure in the local skateboarding scene.

In the wake of his passing, tributes have poured in from across the community.

Danny has been celebrated for his fearless approach to the sport and his kindness off the board.

The Jersey Skateparks Association described the 25-year-old as embodying the very spirit of skateboarding.

They wrote: “Thrasher on the board, thrasher off the board. You will be sorely missed.”

Social media posts were also flooded with messages of love, grief, and memories of a man who brought energy, humour, and care to everyone he met.

“This guy was more than just skateboarding," one friend wrote online.

"This guy was a kind, loving and funny human being. He made smiles go round to everyone’s faces other than his.

"He cared for others more than he did himself, he did what he had to do as a friend and smashed it every time."

Another close friend, Eddie Da Rocha, said: “You've always walked by our side and always will.

"We will miss you deeply, you were the greatest friend with the greatest energy. Every person you'd meet you'd touch their heart in some way.

"Such an amazing skater you smashed the bowl every time. The ones who got to watch you skate are lucky.”

Branden Wright, a fellow skater, also spoke about Danny’s determination and the joy he brought to the sport.

He said: “Cram was the pure embodiment of everything it means to be a thrash metal hardcore skateboarder.

"There’s nothing I’ll miss more than watching him relentlessly throw his body at a trick even he thinks he can’t do, slamming and laughing between every attempt, until he eventually rolls away. Given enough tries, he could do anything.”

He added: “Outside of skating, he was one of my closest friends.

"It’s still hard to believe someone with his energy and personality isn’t with us anymore.

"It’s a reminder of the reality of mental health struggles and how even the strongest among us can be taken down.”

An inquest into Danny's death has been adjourned until April 2025.
