The Government's Director of Education is due to leave his role early next year.
Seán O’Regan will instead work on law and policy changes to the Education (Jersey) Law 1999 before retiring on 31 July 2025.
Government CEO Andrew McLaughlin thanked Mr O'Regan for "his hard work and dedication to the education service, working tirelessly and professionally with school and early years’ leaders, and across government and the third sector".
He added: "Seán has overseen and directed educational policies, programmes, and initiatives within the Government of Jersey, and led the school system, including through the Covid pandemic, improving educational outcomes and standards for the children and young people of Jersey."
Mr O'Regan's departure is the second high-profile exit from Children, Young People, Education and Skills in less than a month, after the department's Chief Officer Rob Sainsbury stepped down from his role on 31 October.
Whilst the Government refused to reveal the cost of any redundancy package for Mr Sainsbury, the "anticipated saving" from his departure was confirmed as £160,000 a year.
