Disco Legends to take the stage at Weekender

Singing siblings Sister Sledge, known for their iconic hit 'We are Family,' will be bringing their blend of jazz, soul, gospel and disco to get all generations dancing at this year's Weekender festival.

Sister Sledge are due to perform on the Main Stage on Sunday 2 September along with Rita Ora, Sigrid, The Beat and others that have still to be announced.

Organisers said: "There are only a handful of acts that can truly cross generational divides and get a huge audience singing and dancing in unison. Weekender is a festival for all the family and we want to present acts that get our whole crowd on their feet and into a festival spirit.

"When it comes to infectious music that you can't help tapping your feet to, who better to make 'Everybody Dance' than the incredible, iconic Sister Sledge. The original multi-lead vocal girl group will play Weekender's Sunday 'Legends' spot, ensuring Weekenders get truly'Lost in Music'."

The sisters have been performing for a generation. Trained by their lyric-opera soprano grandmother, sisters Debbie and Kim, along with sisters Joan and Kathy, stepped into the world of performance at a young age. With both parents in show-business, following in family footsteps felt like a natural progression.

From their first performances at church events, 'Mrs Williams Granddaughters,' as they were then known, forged a career with the group gaining a reputation for memorable, catchy songs you just can't forget. Their iconic 'We Are Family' album, produced by Nile Rodgers (Chic) gave us 'He's the Greatest Dancer', 'We are Family', 'Lost in Music' and 'Thinking of You.'

With over 15 million sales from a string of Gold and Platinum records, Sister Sledge have earnt over 100 awards and commendations in the process. Whether performing for the Pope, at the White House or to sold out concerts around the world, as a four piece, trio or duo, they continue to put on a memorable show and entertain crowds. The sisters are no strangers to festivals either, having played the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury and a myriad of other festival dates.

This summer sees them embark on a UK tour which will include Weekender. Organisers hope they will get the weekend "dancing to a different beat." "This September, don't miss a Sunday to remember; grab your dancing shoes and join the Weekender family," they said.

Other performers announced for the festival include Dizzee Rascal, Rag'N'Bone Man, Big Shaq and Mabel.
