DFDS to facilitate further discussions about French day trips

Friday 24 January 2025

DFDS is continuing to discuss day trips to Jersey and France, the ferry operator has said – just one day after publishing its St Malo timetable.

The current schedule includes daily crossings to the French city from May onwards.

Until then, the Danish shipping giant will operate a ferry between Jersey and St Malo five days a week – completing a total of eight rotations each week.

DFDS said these crossings – which will take just under two hours – have been made slower in order to be more environmentally-friendly.

The company said: "DFDS’s priority is to deliver a reliable and resilient service, minimising any delays or cancellations.

"Our journey times reflect this ongoing commitment.

"We have adopted slightly slower transit times which is better for our environmental footprint."

The Danish ferry company added that day trips to St Malo would be feasible "on most weekends from 15 April onwards to meet demand", with multiple crossings during peak season.

"We understand the need for daytrips, both for islanders and for visitors from the Brittany region and beyond, and we will be discussing this further with stakeholders on the island," the operator added.

On Saturdays in July, a ferry leaves Jersey at 08:55 to arrive in St Malo at 11:50, with return ferries leaving St Malo at 17:50 or 18:40.

Passengers will travel to France on board the Tarifa Jet, a high-speed ferry that can accommodate over 700 travellers and up to 175 vehicles.

The 86.2m vessel offers free Wi-Fi, a cafeteria and a boutique shop.

Bookings for all services will open by 31 January, and DFDS said a joint campaign will be running with Visit Jersey to promote travel to the island.

DFDS Vice President, Head of Business for the Channel & Baltics, Filip Hermann, will be speaking at the Jersey Chamber of Commerce lunch on 12 March, to discuss the company's vision of future ferry services.
