A local law firm is offering free legal advice this summer after calls from Islanders for help in drafting their wills.
Hanson Renouf is running half hour sessions on Wednesday mornings throughout June and July to help people sort out who they are leaving their money to and to help those who might need to amend one they have already written.
Head of Wills and Probate Michelle Leverington said: “It is dangerous to make assumptions about who will inherit your Estate if you do not make a Will. At Hanson Renouf we believe it is important to take advice before deciding whether a Will is required and to not rely on ‘second hand’ information which could well be out of date or incorrect.
“If someone dies without making a Will then the rules on intestacy will determine who inherits their assets. In addition, dying without a Will often leaves family and friends uncertain as to whom should be dealing with the financial affairs and paperwork, which following the death of a loved one can cause additional stress and anxiety."
The clinics are by appointment only between 8 and 9.30 am at their offices in Hill Street and although they are free, the firm would like anyone who gets their advice to make a five pound donation to their chosen charity – Centre Point Trust.
To book an appointment you can call Karla on 767764 or email karla.summersshaw@hansonrenouf.com.
The law firm has been giving free family law advice for the last few years.
