A group of women have a new event for charity next month all sewn up.
The Crochet Divas – a small group all hooked on the craft – are taking over the entire furniture department at De Gruchy on Saturday 14 March to teach others how to crochet at the Big Jersey Comic Relief Crafternoon.
The event sold out within days and forty people are now signed up for their crafty workshop.
Organiser Sam Watts said: “It is the perfect opportunity to spread the crochet love around and raise money for a great cause in the process.
“I’m not sure if this is the start of a big crochet revival but it’s so exciting to see how this idea has captured the hearts and minds of people.”
Everyone new to the craft will have three hours to learn how to cast on to get the hang of a few different crochet stitches.
Sam said: “We won’t be producing any blankets on the day but we hope that many will be inspired to go on to hook their way to blanket happiness after the event! All newbies will receive a starter kit including ball of yarn, crochet hook, darning needles and kick-starter notes.”
Sam said she hopes to make the workshop an annual event and that lots of people will come down to support all those taking part at de Gruchy between 2 pm and 5 pm on Saturday 14 March and help raise more money for Comic Relief.
She said: “We have created a really great Facebook page following already so we will capture interest and who knows how this will develop in the future."
