Drugs worth £1.6m discovered in Porsche

The driver of a Porsche travelling from St. Malo to Jersey appeared in court this morning after 60kg of drugs worth £1.6million were found in his car.

James Rice, who is 69, was stopped after arriving on the Condor Rapide on Saturday.

A subsequent search of his Porsche Cayenne revealed  59kg of cannabis resin, 1kg of Cocaine and 3.2kg of MDMA within the car,

Together, the drugs had a commercial value of £1.6million –more than half of the £3.01million seized in total last year.

He was charged with breaking the Customs and Excise (Jersey) Law in the Magistrate’s Court this morning at 10:00.

Customs officials are now advising members of the public with any information to help them tackle drug smuggling to contact them on 0800 735 5555, where they can make an anonymous report.
