Durrell are hoping their Thai chefs can cook up plenty for hungry visitors this weekend, and so raise funds to replace out of date equipment.
Staff will be working late, and for free, on Friday night running a Thai restaurant and takeaway, with the proceeds going towards new monitoring equipment which the Trust doesn’t have the budget for this year.
The necessary kit includes things like magnifying viewing loupes for carrying out operations on tiny animals, probes, ultrasound equipment and cameras so that the veterinary staff and keepers can keep an eye on recovering animals without disturbing them.
Durrell’s Rick Jones said: “Such equipment could make a huge impact on the quality of care that we can offer the many endangered (and extremely precious) animals we are entrusted with… but it really depends on the response we receive. We are offering what we know is an extremely reasonably-priced, high quality and authentic menu, and like everything we do at Durrell our hearts will be very much in it.”
Café Firefly will be open between 6 and 9pm on Friday for sit-down or takeaway Thai food.
