The secret ingredient for a 'wild' night out...

Saturday 27 April 2019

Islanders readying themselves for a 'wild' night out might have a new tipple of choice following the launch of a new ale inspired by the zoo.

Liberation Brewery has launched a bespoke golden ale, brewed locally, as part of a partnership with Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust to mark the 60th anniversary year of the charity.

Liberation will be donating 10p from the sale of every bottle of the 'Go Wild' premium golden ale - which is made with classic British malts as well as a blend of European and American hops, with a hint of spice and citrus - to the Trust.

The design of the bottle reflects the graphics of Durrell’s ‘Go Wild’ campaign, that has encouraged islanders to get in touch with their animal instincts and will see 40 life-sized, gorilla sculptures - one of which will be sponsored by Liberation Brewery - placed across Jersey this summer.

It is hoped the large-scale community project, which will take place 29 July to 14 October, will raise funds for a state-of-the-art new gorilla house at Jersey Zoo.

Jersey Gorilla, also known as Will Highfield, the zoo's Customer Liaison Officer who is running Jersey Marathon in a gorilla suit to raise funds for the charity, was also called on to help promote the new brew.

Patrick Dean, Head Brewer, said: “Liberation Brewery are very proud to have been asked to create a new beer for Durrell Wildlife Conversation Trust and help them celebrate 60 years of saving species from extinction. ‘Go Wild’ is an easy drinking golden ale that is perfect to enjoy with BBQs this summer.”

Commenting on the partnership, Dr. Lesley Dickie, CEO of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust added: “We are thrilled to partner with Liberation Brewery to produce this golden ale, which we hope everyone in Jersey and beyond will be drinking this summer to celebrate our 60th anniversary. We are very grateful to Liberation for supporting our work in this way.”

Go Wild beer will be available at Jersey Zoo’s gift shop and cafés as well as in Victor Hugo stores. It will also soon be available in Liberation pubs.
