Two experienced swimmers had to be rescued near Bel Croute this morning after strong winds and tides interrupted their usual swim.
The pair were almost swept out to Noirmont Point before being rescued by Jersey Coastguard and Jersey Fire and Rescue Service.
After receiving a call at around 08:45, the Fire Service launched the inshore rescue boat from La Haule slip.
By the time emergency services arrived at the scene, the swimmers had made it to rocks in the bay to wait for help.
The swimmers, described as “shaken” by one eyewitness, were helped into the inshore rescue boat and safely taken back to shore.
In a statement posted on social media, the Fire Service said: "Both swimmers were experienced and frequently swim in the area but had been caught out as a heavy shower passed through with strong winds and tides affecting their usual swim."
Station commander Mark Bailey-Walker commended the actions of the public in recognising that the swimmers were in trouble, calling the coastguard and relaying information to emergency services.
He added that the swimmers made a “good decision” by not attempting to swim against the current and finding the closest point on the shore.
