And it certainly is extreme, as 19 teams will be competing today over a gruelling island-wide course in kayaking, coasteering, swimming, running and cycling.
The Silkworth Charity Group is holding their 3rd annual Extreme Team Challenge, a relay-style, around-the-island race, made up of 10 stages.
Each of the stages involves a different distance, so team members of varying abilities can work together to complete the circuit.
Kazz Padidar, of Jersey Wild Adventures is the mastermind behind the course, having designed and led the challenge for the last two years.
He said: "This challenge is for anyone who is enthusiastic about sporting endeavours or anyone who enjoys a challenge that involves dedicated teamwork."
“It’s a great way to experience the magic of the island in a fun, exciting and challenging way that tests your limits."
There are 19 teams competing on Saturday, each made up of 10 participants, as well as a team coordinator. Emphasis is very much on teamwork, coordination and motivation.
Last year's event was enjoyed by 170 participants and raised in excess of £12,500. The money enabled the charity’s drop-in facility at The Clubhouse to be refurbished and developed, so that they can continue to support those in the island every day who are dealing with drug or alcohol problems.
The 2014 and 2015 winners, De La Salle College's Grade-buster team, are once again competing, but there will be stiff competition this year as more teams take to the challenge from many different sports clubs and organisations.
The race begins at 06:30 from Greve De Lecq where Mr Padidar will lead the coasteering group across the coastline to Devil’s Hole and from there the first running stage sets off along the north coast. The rest of the race continues around the island and finishes back at Greve De Lecq, where the prize-giving will be held later that evening at The Prince of Wales pub.
Over 55 volunteer marshals are helping with the race and the charity’s CEO Jason Wyse said: “We are always excited to launch the Extreme Team Challenge as it’s a great way to bring the island’s community together in a fun, engaging and motivating way. We are always grateful for the immense amount of support we receive from both the teams and volunteers and hope the race will be our best one yet!”
