As the cost of living and the emotional toll of the winter months weigh on islanders, an experienced family lawyer has encouraged people to seek out mediation to resolve issues where possible.
Advocate Barbara Corbett, who was promoting Family Mediation Week, said she had gained mediation qualifications because "to help people find common ground and feel invested in their own solutions".
"It is not always possible but when people come to see me and mediation looks viable I encourage them to resolve as many issues as possible in this way," she added.
Family Mediation Week takes place from Monday 22 to Friday 26 January and is organised by the Family Mediation Council, who are set to promote mediation services throughout the week.
Family Mediation Jersey say their mediation services help families make joint decisions and help prevent further disputes, which helps people avoid having to go through court.
The event's scheduling follows Blue Monday, with family law firm Corbett Le Quesne pointing out that people will be under particular psychological strain at this time of year.
Advocate Corbett advised people to seek out the free service offered by the Family Foundation at familyfoundation@courts.je.
