Faulty speedometer lands teen motorcyclist in court

Saturday 24 August 2024

A 19-year-old motorcyclist has pleaded guilty to speeding – but told the Magistrate’s Court that the speedometer on his bike was faulty.

Appearing in the Magistrate's Court this week, Devin Inglis admitted riding his black motorbike at 52mph along La Grande Route de la Côte on the night of 19 April.

The road's speed limit is 30mph, the court heard.

But Inglis told the court that the speedometer was "not functioning".

However, Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu said that this was "all the more reason to be careful”.

Inglis was subsequently fined £250.
