Underworld creatures to hit Jersey for unique festival

Monday 11 September 2017

It will be Halloween in February next year when the Festival of the Dead hits Jersey with its crowd of skulls and creatures from the underworld taking to the streets for a festival "like no other."

Mixing carnival elements, with circus performances, live music and macabre outfits, the event has already sold over 60,000 tickets in the UK.

The Festival of the Dead started out of a Halloween party at a London club last year. The concept seemed so well received that the organisers decided to throw another party and see if anyone would be into the macabre theme outside of Halloween-season. The idea took off and the "clubbing phenomenon" sold over 60,000 tickets in the UK. Upcoming shows in Belfast, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Bournemouth and Bristol have already sold out and Jersey is set to be the next victim of the craze.

The carnival-esque spectacle mixes "Halloween with circus performance, burlesque and clubbing." With the launch of Festival Of The Dead - Chapter 2: ‘Limbo,’ organisers have promised to take the party to the next level and are inviting spectators to "navigate purgatory with acrobats, circus performers, giant carnival floats and spectacular processions."

The event will include live music with DJs spinning a "killer" soundtrack of house, bass and garage, with a latin twist. Skull processions, giant skeletons, inflatable skulls, smoke rings and a smoke ring drum set will all form part of the entertainment. Fancy dress is highly encouraged to make sure that spectators "look the part" and professional make-up will also be available at the event.

Nathan Reed and Ben Duncan, Festival Of The Dead organisers, said: “Festival Of The Dead is a very special event and we can’t wait to unleash the next chapter. We’re determined to keep pushing the boundaries and are confident ‘Limbo’ will take our guests on a journey through the afterlife they’ll never forget! We’ve set the bar as high as possible to ensure that Festival Of The Dead contunues to deliver the best performers, the best production values and a soundtrack guaranteed to get all those party people dancing."

Amid a busy calendar in the UK, Germany and France, the event is set for a Jersey stop on 24 February next year. The venue has yet to be confirmed and tickets, priced between £14,90 and £23, will be available for purchase soon. Over 1,000 people have already expressed interested in the event on the event Facebook's page.
