In stats: the lightning storm that woke up the island on Wednesday night

More than 4,200 lightning strikes hit Jersey in last night's thunderstorm.

After a humid day, with temperatures reaching 28.1 degrees at the Maison St. Louis Observatory, islanders were put on alert for a significant thunderstorm from 23:00 last night.

The first cracks came around midnight, with no let-up for several hours.

As well as lightning strikes, heavy rain continued to fall throughout the night, pausing for a while after 04:00 before resuming before 06:00.

Now the last of the rain has passed and cloud has passed, Jersey Met is promising islanders a mostly sunny afternoon, with a top temperature of 23 degrees.

Jersey today: Cloudy with showers, some heavy, clearing by mid morning, then sunny intervals developing. The afternoon will be mainly sunny. Max: 23°C. Max UV: 5.
