The first ever multi-faith prayer room in a local school has opened.
Jersey College for Girls officially unveiled the new space, which was inspired by student feedback, on Thursday in a ceremony attended by representatives of different faiths.
The six major world religions are represented in the room’s design, which has deliberately been kept basic: both Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianism and Islam), and Dharmic religions (Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism).
JCG says it hopes the area for quiet contemplation for people of faith will help increase its inclusivity.
“Our multi faith room is a quiet location set aside in our busy college where people of differing religious beliefs, or none at all, are able to spend time in contemplation or prayer. Led by our students, its creation is an important addition to the inclusive culture of our College," said Principal Carl Howarth.
