Five young men have admitted raping a woman in December and will be sentenced in the Royal Court later this year.
Oprea Stefanita Dobre (18), Alexandru Dobrin (18), Florin Ionut Calin (20), Dorel Stefanita Diaconu (22) and Marius Adrian Dobrin (24) were each charged with two counts of rape in relation to an incident that took place on Sunday 16 December in the Parish of Trinity.
Mr Dobre was represented by Advocate Francesca Pinel, Mr Alexandru Dobrin was represented by Advocate Chris Hillier, Mr Calin was represented by Advocate Michael Haines, Mr Diaconu was represented by Advocate Luke Sette and Mr Marius Dobrin was represented by Advocate Sarah Dale.
All men entered guilty pleas to both charges.
Crown Advocate Simon Thomas told Court that the men should be sentenced on 17 May.
He however highlighted that the basis of the plea would need to be reviewed before the prosecution can decide whether it can proceed to sentencing without a trial.
The five men first appeared in Magistrate's Court in December 2018. The case was heard by Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris who decided that “this matter is too serious” to be dealt with in the Magistrate’s Court and the case was sent to the Royal Court.
