Have you seen Lucy? Search continues for doggy daycare escapee

Friday 11 August 2023

Dozens of islanders have joined a major search for a rescue dog who was spooked and jumped the fence at her doggy day care earlier this week.

Lucy has been seen multiple times since her escape from Radin's at Maufant around lunchtime on Monday – most recently on Gorey beach this morning – but searchers have been unable to capture the frightened pup.

As Lucy's owners, Sarah and Peter Stoten are currently on holiday in Corfu, their friends, relatives and a team of volunteers are leading the search.

Posting on Twitter, owner Sarah said: "Our holiday paradise isn’t paradise without knowing our dog is safe."

Her husband, Peter, is cutting his holiday short and flying back to Jersey tonight to join the effort to find his dog.

Lucy is a rescue dog, but has lived in Jersey for some time. Her home is in the the west of the island and she is therefore unfamiliar with the area around Maufant and Gorey where she has been sighted.

The dog is wary of people, especially men, but responds to her name. Searchers are being encouraged to use "strong smelling food" to attract her.

Search volunteer Tracy Lee said that Lucy had been spotted in Gorey at 06:00 this morning.

She explained: "Lucy has been on Long Beach, up the slip by Rhona's Beach Café, Seymore Tower slip, Golf Course and Gorey Village main road. There are many people out with sausages, standing around quietly and with binoculars but she has bolted when called."

Tracey added that Lucy "must be exhausted" but is "running around mad on adrenaline".

The search team has requested that people searching for Lucy do not take their dogs with them, as she appears to be spooked by other dogs.

Updates on the hunt for Lucy can be found on the 'Lost Dogs in Jersey' Facebook page.
