Flippin' marvellous! Global recognition for Jersey burger

Monday 31 October 2022

The gang at JB's Brewhouse are celebrating a flippin' marvellous accolade: officially being home to one of the top 50 best burgers in the world... and top 5 in the UK.

According to international travel website Big7, the Wharf Street craft beer and ping pong venue serves up the 38th best burger in the world and the third in the UK.

Ranking the best burgers on the planet, Big7 wrote: “At this Genuine Jersey smokehouse, patties are hand-formed from local Woodlands Farm beef, then cooked using authentic natural wood flavours and techniques and slapped inside a bun from Vienna bakery.

"The result? A mouth-watering mouthful. Wash it down with one of the 100 craft beers available at the bar.”

It used a ranking system that considered editorial experience, critic reviews, customer feedback, location and accessibility, presentation, value for money and atmosphere to compile its chart.

Responding to the news, co-owner Josh Band said: “Seeing our name among a list of the who’s who of global burger restaurants is still sinking in!

“We’ve been so dedicated to making all our smokehouse food as local, fresh, made from scratch and authentic for so long now. Our dedication to our burger is probably on the verge of obsessive!

“We hand-form each and every one of them because we want to combine the freshest Jersey beef as close to cooking as possible.

"We work with Vienna Bakery to produce a signature Jersey butter and seaweed infused roll which is baked fresh daily for us, we create burger specials on a weekly basis and have become known for our creativity of ingredient combinations.”

JB’s best-selling burger is its ‘Dirty Cow’ which is topped with smoked streaky bacon, homemade sun-blushed ketchup and a black truffle mac ‘n’ cheese.

Mr Band added: “Burgers aren’t just about cheap fast food for kids; they can become gourmet very easily. We have no boundaries for creativity and among our team, burger specials is a competitive challenge.

“Truffles, lobster, gold leaf … we’ve even been known to top a burger with breakfast cereals. It sometimes seems like the more insane the idea, the better it sells. However, we are strict with our recipe testing and make sure that the team think it’s ‘delicious’ before it is ever offered to a customer”.

Big7’s top burger was from Royal Stacks in Melbourne.
