A retired Chartered Accountant and Chief Operating Officer at an intellectual property firm has been sworn in as the island's newest Jurat.

Mike Berry, who moved to Jersey in 1996, took the oath of office at the Royal Court this week.

As well as working for PwC and Spoor & Fisher, the St. Mary resident was a trustee of the Jersey Association for Youth and Friendship for 24 years.

He also helped to establish the Jersey Employers’ Network on Disability and served as a trustee of the Jersey Employment Trust.

Now the Treasurer of the Lions Club of Jersey, Mr Berry was also the inaugural Chair of the Jersey Advisory and Conciliation Service.

Commenting on his appointment as a Jurat, he said: "It is an absolute honour and privilege to have been appointed as a Jurat of the Royal Court.

"Jurats past and present have told me how interesting and worthwhile the work is, and I am looking forward to playing my part alongside them"
