Four months of road delays in St John

Saturday 19 July 2014

There will be four months of disruption and delays on the main road through St John from Tuesday.

The road will be closed between 9.30 am and 4.30 pm every weekday, but will be partly opened to allow people to get to and from work.

The resurfacing work is being carried out in phases, but is expected to take until the end of November.

Some disruption to the 25 and 27 bus routes is expected – although buses will be able to get through the area being worked on most of the time, a temporary shuttle service will be set up when they can’t.

A statement from the Transport and Technical Services department said: “TTS identified La Grande Route de St Jean as high priority in the ongoing highway maintenance programme and is very much in need of this repair work.

“The department asks road users to understand that this work is essential and asks drivers to allow more time for their journeys if travelling in the area and to take care when driving past the road works for their own safety and for those working on the project, complying with any signage or instructions given.”

Work starts on Tuesday on the stretch of road starting at Rue du Haute de l’Orme – outside the Union Inn - and be undertaken in short sections progressing northwards to Hautes Croix.  TTS say that pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained with escorts.
