The recently-renovated Gallery Café has reopened in St Aubin after the Harbour Gallery relocated to a new site at the opposite end of the bay last year.
The Harbour Gallery, which faced homelessness as it reached the end of its lease at former premises in St Aubin at the start of last year, reopened next to Normans at Commercial Buildings in April 2023.
Meanwhile, the café continued serving food for another nine months, before closing its kitchen in September last year to undergo building work.
Picutred: The cafe was previously on the first floor but moved to the ground floor.
The café has now moved to the ground floor of the renovated building and reopened its doors to customers earlier this month.
Express caught up with the owner of the Gallery Café, Aneta Markowska-Krzeminska, to find out more about the transformation and what customers can expect from the revamped space.
"The whole building has been renovated from top to bottom, both inside and out. You can even see the transformation before stepping inside!
"We were closed for almost 13 months, during which we built a new kitchen from scratch. New floors, walls and lighting. Almost a fresh start."
"We’re so happy to still be located in St Aubin—it’s such a beautiful area.
"Being on the ground floor has made the café more accessible, as customers no longer need to climb stairs.
"We also have large sliding glass doors that open into the yard/alfresco area, creating a bright, open space that feels welcoming and connected to the outdoors."
"We’re incredibly passionate about this project.
"Along with a fresh, new look, we’re still offering the classics our customers know and love, like our Roasted Sweet Potato and the 'Curry of the Day.
"We’re also adding exciting new dishes to the specials board, so there’s always something new to try.
"We’ve also tested coffee beans from different roasters to ensure we're serving the best coffee."
"Our menu will be seasonal, and we use fresh, local products.
"We are serving breakfast classic favourites like the full English (available in vegetarian and vegan options) and also dishes with a few modern twists like 'Elvis,' featuring sourdough bread, crunchy peanut butter, grilled banana, bacon, a fried egg, and chilli oil.

"All of our food is homemade and made fresh daily, including our delicious house-baked cakes.
"We have a mix of classic and fresh dishes for everyone to enjoy
"We also offer a range of soft drinks, teas, beers, and wine to complement your meal. And we will also be adding Sunday roast beef from New Year."
"We are a small team of four to five people, including two chefs and two front-of-house staff."
"I’ve been working in hospitality and customer service for 17 years.
"I fell in love with St Aubin and this café, and as soon as I had the chance, I decided to buy the business."
"We’re closed on Mondays for now, but we’re planning to open seven days a week and in the evenings by spring."
"We’re thrilled to welcome everyone back in our new space in St Aubin! Our goal is to provide great food, excellent coffee, and a warm, accessible space for everyone.
"We’ve kept the dishes our customers love while adding new options to try. We’re incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received throughout the process.
"This project reflects our passion for creating a space where people can relax and enjoy fantastic food and drinks.
"We’d love to invite readers to visit and see the transformation for themselves – you won’t be disappointed!"
