Hundreds of islanders attended the Women's World Cup Fan Zone yesterday to watch England play Spain in the final – but sadly it wasn't the result hoped for...
With TV screens set up in Liberty Wharf, and restaurants selling beers from 11:00, the excitement around the game was palpable.
Despite the disappointing result, which saw the Lionesses lose 1-0, many heralded the turn-out as a triumph.
Among those in attendance was former England netball captain Serena Kersten, who was watching the game closely together with her family, and Hannah Campbell, who was first called up to play for Jersey’s football team in 2020, and said she was delighted to see so many islanders turn out to watch the match.
"I’ve lived here my whole life and to see all these people watching – you can’t really describe it," she said.
Meanwhile, following the action live in Australia was 15-year-old JCG student Auden Ruelle, who is a footballer herself and described the experience on the Bailiwick Podcast.
