The Government's new headquarters – located at the former Cyril Le Marquand House site on Union Street – is undergoing its finishing touches as it gets ready to open to the public.

Customer and Local Services staff are preparing to start operating from the office block in December, moving from their current premises on La Motte Street.

Developed by Dandara, the building has 154 solar panels on its roof and it is estimated that it will consume up to 70% less energy and emit 70% less carbon than the buildings it replaces.

The project is estimated to have cost £90m, though officials say that it has generated over £138m in economic and social benefits including sourcing from local suppliers and employing islanders.

Sophie Le Sueur, Interim Chief Officer for CLS, said: "We are now in a position where it is really coming to life.

"From a building perspective, we are working busily behind the scenes making sure that everything is ready to welcome customers from December."

She added: "We are really excited to be able to move here and to be able to offer customers a really welcoming, inclusive, great space to be able to see them – but it's important that we get it right and we don't want to rush."

Ms Le Sueur explained that a further announcement detailing the exact opening date will be made closer to the time of the changeover.
