A 19th-century townhouse owned by the Crown was re-opened by the Lieutenant-Governor last week after undergoing a dramatic makeover.

12 Belmont Road in St Helier has been reinstated to its original form as a family home over the past year, after previously falling into disrepair.

The Grade Three listed building was formally re-opened last Friday by Lieutenant Governor His Excellency Vice Admiral Jerry Kyd.

Alan Blair, HM Receiver General and administrator of Crown property in Jersey, said that the house would be available for rent this week.

The four- to five-bedroom townhouse measures 2,400 sq ft and has four bathrooms, three reception rooms, a kitchen, a separate utility room, and a private patio courtyard.

Mr Blair said: "The Crown is pleased to be able to play a small part in increasing the island’s housing stock by restoring this property in the centre of St Helier and returning it to being a family home, which is what it was built as 180 years ago.

"I am very pleased with the outcome as the project was finished on time and on budget.

"This was due to good cooperation between all parties which included the Planning Department, the architect, and the main contractor."

The Receiver General aims to offer the property at an affordable rate, with priority given to key workers.
