The Planning department wants your views. Try to keep it clean...

The Planning Minister is applying for a demolition order to do away with his own department’s red tape.

Deputy Steve Luce wants to cut restrictions within the Planning system that would make it easier and quicker for Islanders and businesses to make changes to properties.

He says that changing windows, making energy efficiency improvements or putting up signs shouldn’t need Planning permission at all – and he wants to make life easier for businesses in the tourism, hospitality and health sectors.

A consultation about relaxing Planning rules took place earlier this year and is now being extended to the public, who can have their say here.

Deputy Luce said that the aim of the project was to make life easier.

He said: “We’ve had some really useful input from a range of people across the Island using these laws day in day out and as a result of their feedback, we’ve recommended changes to the law.

“What we propose doing should make life easier for a whole raft of people and businesses and, I believe, provide a boost for enterprise because it’ll allow businesses to be more flexible and respond more quickly to events.”
