GUIDE: What's happening on Children's Day?

1,000 free goodie bags for children and young people will be up for grabs at two parks on Sunday as part of the first ever fun-filled public celebration of Children's Day... But what else is on the agenda?

Jersey Children’s Day (Sunday 3 July) was created in response to a recommendation by a Citizen’s Panel that responded to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry, which investigated abuse against children on the island over a period of around 60 years.

To mark the day, a range of free activities and entertainment has been lined up for children, young people, and families across the island.

Here's a flavour of what's on...

Howard Davis Park

The Children's Day celebrations will be taking place at the park between 14:00 to 18:00, and families are encouraged to bring along a picnic.

There will be 500 free goodie bags for children and young people, handed out on a first-come-first-served basis. They contain a £5 voucher to spend on food and refreshments are participating vendors at the events.

14:00 - 14:20: Cannon O'Rafferty School of Irish Dancing

14:30 - 14:40: Jersey Youth Arts - Ukulele Club

14:45 - 14:50: Jersey Youth Arts - I'm Still Standing (Vocal /Piano)

15:00 - 15:20: Jersey Youth Arts - Guitar Club

15:45 - 15:55: Never enough - Ellie Mai (Vocal/Ballet)

16:00 - 16:05: Fly Me to the Moon

16:15 - 16:25: The Greatest Show

16:30 - 16:55: Jersey Music Service - Jersey Youth Big Band

17:00 - 17:20: W.I.P (Youth Band)

17:30 - 18:00: Jim's house (Youth Band)

Around the park:

There'll be Jersey Face Painting, Amuse Me Events will be providing lawn games, and there'll be Magic Mirror Photo Booth to play with.

The Jersey Stormtroopers will be wandering around, and children will also be able to meet the Emergency Services, as well as the Jersey Sea and Royal Marines Cadets.

Charities Caring Cooks, Mind Jersey and the Women's Refuge will all be present, as well as the Jersey Employment Trust and Jersey Cares.

Jersey Sport, Skills Jersey, the Jersey Youth Service and Girlguiding will also be on hand.
 

Millbrook Park

The Children's Day celebrations will be taking place at the park between 09:30 and 12:00.

There will be an additional 500 free goodie bags for children and young people, handed out on a first-come-first-served basis. They contain a £5 voucher to spend on food and refreshments are participating vendors at the events. 

ArtHouse Jersey has been working on a project in primary and secondary schools, which will be unveiled at Millbrook Park. They will be assisted by Woodshack, at Jersey Employment Trust.

Attendees will also have an opportunity to meet with the NSPCC Jersey Pantosaurus and the Jersey Showman, and get their faces painted with Facepainters Ink.

Supportive charities Barnardo's, Centrepoint, Brighter Futures, the Jersey Childcare Trust and Every Child Our Future will be around, as well as the Childcare and Early Years' Service and Milli's Separated Family Centre.

The Police will be there, and representatives from Fostering and Adoption and Jersey Library.

Attendees will also be able to engage with Nature Base and speak to Public Health about food and nutrition.
 

Across the island

Jersey Heritage is providing free entry for under-18s to all their sites on Children’s Day.

The Bosdet Foundation are providing free access at Jump Jersey on Children’s Day to 580 children and organisations, and there'll be an open day for Camp Bosdet at Brig Y Don.
