Big Hockey stars coming to Jersey
Friday 16 December 2016
Rio gold medalist, Giselle Ansley, is one of four international hockey stars in the Island this weekend to put some of Jersey's top players through some elite training.
Ansley will be joined by fellow Olympians David Armes and Barry Middleton, and local legend Beckie Middleton and will be coaching 110 Junior players and 25 Seniors at Les Quennevais on Friday and Saturday.
The Living Hockey Camp is a chance for local players to practice some drills including stick skills, passing, goal scoring and defending and will be a chance to get a look at Ansley's gold medal.
Giselle Ansley plays for London Club Surbiton and made her International debut for England in 2013. She has since represented GB and was part of the gold medal winning team at the Rio Olympics.
Barry Middleton is England and GB captain, has represented GB at four Olympic Games and won the European Championships with England in 2009. Middelton currently plays for Holcombe Hockey Club and the Ranchi Rays in the Indian Premier League.
David Ames was 2015 Premier League Player of the Year and represented GB at the Rio Olympics. He made his International debut for Ireland in 2008 at the age of 18 and played for them 64 times before switching allegiance to England and GB. He now plays for Beeston Hockey Club.
Beckie Middleton (nee Herbert) is no stranger to the pitch at Les Quennevais having been born and raised in Jersey. She has represented GB and England and has won Commonwealth and European Championship medals. Like Ames, she was also Premier League Player of the Year in 2015. Middleton currently plays for Surbiton Hockey Club.
