Jersey Hospice Care are revving up for their annual Christmas tree collection, and are asking islanders to register now.
A team of up to 40 volunteers will be picking up the registered trees from outside people’s homes and businesses in January, before taking them to La Collette Green Waste Site.
The tree-rific scheme not only ensure the trees can be turned into soil improver for local gardens and farmland but also reduces car emissions by eliminating over 2,000 individual car journeys to the site.
The collections - which require a minimum donation of £10 - will take place on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 January for businesses in St. Helier, and Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 January for all households, as well as businesses outside of St. Helier.
Last year, the event raised over £42,000 for the charity, with more than 60 volunteers lending a helping hand.
“Christmas tree collections is always a fantastic fundraising event to start the year," Hospice Events Officer, Scott Douglas said. "It’s a hassle-free way for people to make sure their tree is properly recycled, reduce car emissions and help raise valuable funds for Hospice.
“We are so grateful to all our volunteers and supporters, including individuals and businesses, who continue to support us with the collection service and help make it possible. I hope we’ll have even more signups for 2022.”
Infrastructure Minister, Deputy Kevin Lewis, added: “We are pleased to, again, support Jersey Hospice Care with their Christmas tree collection and recycling initiative, by accepting their deliveries at La Collette early in the new year.
“We wish them every success; hopefully the number of trees collected will remain high and it’ll be another successful fundraiser for the Hospice.”
Businesses are asked to sign up by 14:00 on Tuesday 4 January and households by 23:30 on Wednesday 5 January.
