The old Samarès Coast Hotel in St Clement will be demolished and replaced by 29 new homes after politicians gave the green light to a new development.
The 1960s hotel will be knocked down and replaced by 18 new houses and 11 apartments, after the Planning Applications Panel approved an application by the owners.
Planners filed a report to the panel recommending that they approve the proposals, citing the poor quality of the existing buildings and the good design of the new scheme.
The decision came in the same hearing that saw the panel – chaired by Deputy Sean Power – approve a seafront mansion in St Brelade’s Bay on the site of the old Zanzibar Restaurant and an adjacent house.
That project has been a long-running and controversial one but the panel has approved a three-floor 1,978 square metre luxury home in a prime position in the middle of St Brelade’s Bay.
But the panel were evenly split on a proposal to build ten new homes on a field in St Lawrence.
The six-strong panel was divided on the plans for five first-time buyer homes and five social rental homes on Rue de Haut.
That proposal will now be reviewed by Environment Minister Rob Duhamel.
