Problems with new security scanners at Jersey Airport brought waits of up to one hour for departing passengers this morning.
The X-ray scanners went live yesterday morning, meaning passengers were no longer required to remove liquids, laptops and phones from their hand luggage, but today brought large queues snaking back into the departures hall.

A number of passengers reported that they had been obliged to queue for up to 60 minutes, while some passengers had been forced to leave liquid containers of above 100ml, which could have been scanned had the new equipment been working.
Several flights left the Island past their scheduled departure times, although it is not known whether the problems at security were the cause of these delays.

The scanners are part of a £3million improvement project at the airport, with the new technology also set to be brought in at other airports in the British Isles by June 2024.
Bailiwick Express has asked Ports of Jersey for details about this morning’s issues, and when the scanners are expected to be working properly again.
