Condor Ferries has reminded all passengers they will need photographic ID to sail on all domestic services from today.
The company is introducing compulsory ID on inter-island sailings and to Poole and Portsmouth following a 'soft launch' in February. Previously ID had only been mandatory for trips to France in the form of a passport or national card.
The ferry firm said it's just about adopting best practice, and to make sure they're in line with international standards before mandatory ID becomes a regulatory requirement at the end of 2019.

Paul Luxon, Condor’s CEO, has previously said:
"Adopting a consistent approach to working with all passengers is right and it is normal these days for everyone to be carrying some proof around with them.
"The States of Jersey and States of Guernsey would like to see mandatory ID and we are also mindful of any potential impact on the common travel area so have taken time to evaluate its introduction."

This new arrangement will apply to all Condor customers travelling between Guernsey, Jersey, Poole and Portsmouth who will need to present photo ID as a foot passenger or with their vehicle. Accepted ID will include a valid or recently expired passport, driving licence or national identity card. Children under the age of 16 can travel without photo ID on domestic services provided the accompanying adult can vouch for their identification.
