"I'll never forget my first experience of Glasto" - Monty Taft

Friday 01 July 2016

The crowds seemed to love him and Monty Taft says he'll never forget the "buzz" of performing at Glastonbury.

The teenage singer-songwriter, who has only just turned 17, became the youngest ever to take to the acoustic stage at Worthy Farm last weekend.

He played two sets at the sell-out festival on the Friday and Saturday.

Monty said: “Both performances were a real buzz and went down so well with the very appreciative audience on both days. The acoustic stage is massive (holding 6000 people) but as it’s undercover, a bit like a huge circus big top tent, it feels quite intimate and as soon as I started playing people came flooding in.

“It’s a really great vibe in the tent and a great place to chill out and watch some amazing artists out of the rain and mud and there was plenty of that!!

“The Glasto crowd are big supporters of up and coming acts and real musos. Accordingly the reaction to my music and their reaction was instantly to the mood of the music I played. I played all my own stuff, half the set emotional ballads and the other half upbeat stuff and so the reactions from the audience really went with the tone of the music.

“The appreciation and noise at the end of each track especially after my last track was the best ever and gave me a real high. Can’t wait to do it all again.."

Monty said seeing Art Garfunkel performing on the same stage just a few hours later was one of the highlights of Glasto for him, as was seeing Coldplay and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

He said: "After my performance my manager and I went backstage at the Pyramid stage and I met loads of artists and industry people. I also met many of the artists on my Acoustic Stage on other stages and the camaraderie amongst all of the performers big, small, famous or otherwise is brilliant and everyone supports one another."

Monty has a busy summer ahead and is looking forward to performing at the Sark Folk Festival tomorrow where he says the vibe will be different, but great experience too.

He said: “I'll never forget my first experience of Glastonbury (except for the mud) and just cant wait to do it all again... sometime soon I hope! Lets see…”
