A partnership between the States and Island charities is delivering a £775,000 major refurbishment at Oakwell children’s care home.
The home in St Brelade provides residential respite care and short-break support for children with learning disabilities and physical needs, up to the age of 18. The work is due to be completed by the summer. In the meantime short break respite care will be provided at Maison des Landes in St Ouen.
Assistant Treasury Minister Eddie Noel, said: “This is a great example of how the Health and Social Services department and charitable bodies, working with States property professionals, can deliver projects that make a real difference to these young lives. The project will also provide much needed work for the local building industry and allied trades.”
Local contractors are being employed to carry out the work which includes a new swimming pool changing area, sensory area and kitchen - and increasing the number of bedrooms from four to five. A complete overhaul of the property will make it accessible for wheelchairs.
