Increased funding announced to help islanders switch to low-carbon

Islanders using fossil fuel heating systems can now apply for up to £9,000 in match funding to install a low-carbon heat pump, following an increase in the grant provided by the Government.

The funding, which was previously capped at £5,000, has been raised to encourage more households to switch to environmentally friendly heating systems.

Islanders who applied for grants on or after 1 November 2024 will also benefit from the new higher rate.

Low-income households are eligible for further support, with funding of up to £15,000 now available without the need for match funding. This is a rise from the previous maximum of £10,000.

To balance the funding adjustments, grants for some other direct heat technologies, such as flow boilers and panel radiators, will be reduced from £5,000 to £4,000.

Environment Minister Steve Luce spoke about the importance of the initiative in reducing Jersey’s greenhouse gas emissions in a statement issued yesterday.

He said: “The heating sector is the second highest contributor to Jersey’s greenhouse gas emissions, so it is important we continue to focus on this area, the increase in grants available is to help support those currently on fossil fuel heating systems make the switch.

"Although the upfront cost of installing a heat pump can be high, they are very energy efficient, very environmentally friendly and have low running costs."
