Tributes have been paid to one of Jersey’s longest serving Crown Advocates following an inquest which concluded that he passed away from natural causes, after he was found dead at his home in May this year.
The morning's inquest heard that Advocate Andrew John Belhomme (58) – who retired shortly before his death – died as a result of "natural causes associated with liver failure".
Concluding the inquest, Relief Coroner Advocate Cyril Whelan said: "Andrew was known to me as a friend as well as a colleague over a course of decades.
"He was a meticulous and accomplished Jersey advocate of the classic model, thorough and thoroughly knowledgeable across the spectrum of Jersey law.
"He was a quiet, unassuming man who created a distinguished career for himself by his own application and determination."
Advocate Whelan added: "Andrew’s work on the international front was of massive value to the interests of our native Jersey.
"It was typical of him that he was content for others to take the headlines for outcomes which his diligent labours had achieved over the years to the tune of many millions of pounds for our island and its international partners.
"Andrew was a likeable, helpful man and an unfailingly loyal friend. He did Jersey proud, and Jersey should continue to be proud of him.
"He will be very greatly missed by his many friends and respectful colleagues."
