Investigation launched into "unbelievable" cow-riding incident

Monday 03 June 2024

The Master Farms team was left in disbelief at the weekend after learning that a member of the public had mounted one of their heifers in Grouville and "rode it".

In a social media post on Sunday, Master Farms said it knew the name of the individual involved and that the police were also aware of the "unbelievable" incident.

A police spokesperson said: "We are aware of the incident and are working with the States Vet to investigate the matter."

No arrests had been made at the time of writing.

Speaking to Express, Phil Le Maistre of Master Farms said: "We can't believe that anyone would think doing something like that would be acceptable."

Mr Le Maistre explained that, on Sunday morning, the farm had been made aware of footage of the incident which was circulating on social media.

"As soon as we found out, we went down – fortunately [the heifer] seems ok," he continued.

"Animal welfare is a really important thing to all of our farmers.

"All I hope is that the person gets in touch and we can explain the severity of what they have done."
