Two wards for mental health patients have reopened after a £3 million refurbishment project.
Cedar and Beech wards at Clinique Pinel have been given a 12-month refurbishment to make sure that patients can have their own rooms, rather than multi-occupancy dormitories.
Both wards will offer services in partnership with outside bodies including the Jersey Alzheimers’ Association and MIND Jersey, an independent local charity that supports people living with mental health issues.
The two wards cater for patients with different issues: Cedar Ward specialises in assessment and treatment for other mental health issues which come on suddenly, such as depression, anxiety or psychosis; and Beech Ward is suited to those living with mental health illnesses such as dementia and experiencing difficulties living in the community.
The Health department say that the Clinique Pinel project “forms an important part of work to improve inpatient services in Jersey for older adults with mental health problems”.
Health Minister Anne Pryke said: “This refurbishment is an excellent example of cross-departmental working involving Health and Social Services and the Treasury, including Jersey Property Holdings, to deliver an outstanding improvement in the environment for residents.”
Work on the project started last May, and while it was being carried out the patients at Clinique Pinel were transferred to Overdale and Rosewood House.
