22 Police Officers will head onto the streets with a brand new crime-fighting technology today: tablets, laptops and phones. The baddie? Bureaucracy.
The idea is to adopt mobile technologies in a bid to reduce paperwork and spend more time on the streets.
That means more officers ready to catch criminals, and more time to engage with the public in a quicker, more efficient way, the Police say.
The project will see officers record their daily activities with, and then without, the devices over two periods of five weeks.
Superintendent James Wileman said that the project would allow the police to “better serve the public in the 21st Century.”
“It’s a huge step forward for us and will be a very exciting time for us going forward.”
He added: “This is one of the biggest projects currently being run across the States and we are proud to be leading the way with such cutting edge technology. We believe it will revolutionise the way we work and the next 10 weeks are going to be very interesting.”
