Dozens of young musicians are heading off on a tour of Germany this weekend.
The ‘Jer-many’ Band as they’ve called themselves, are a 37-strong group of 9 to 21 year-olds from schools across the Island who will be performing two concerts during their five day visit to the Rhineland.
The musicians are members of Jersey Music Service’s intermediate wind and string ensembles and they have been busy rehearsing specifically for the tour over the past two months.
Vice Principal of Jersey Music Service, Victoria Laurens, said: “The Tour will give the students a great opportunity to gain confidence and enhance their performance skills.”
While on tour the ensemble will get to explore the ruins of the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, cruise along the Rhine Gorge, spend a night bowling and have a day out at Phantasialand theme park.”
Miss Laurens said: “They’ll also have the opportunity to explore the history, culture and language of the region.”
Last year JMS young musicians toured Switzerland, staying in Montreux and visiting the Montreux Jazz Festival. They performed three concerts to full audiences at Chateau D’Oex, Casino Montbenon and Bernex Maison Bernolande and they still had time to try their hand at a bit of Bobsleighing!
