Online shoppers could be about to get more parcels delivered at the weekend, as Jersey Post are considering expanding their Saturday rounds.
But the company says it doesn't have any plans to introduce a Sunday service as well, even though it will be monitoring the Royal Mail trial of that initiative in the UK.
Outgoing Chief Executive Kevin Keen said the business is moving from a letter to a parcel service, and they need to look at the best way of getting those parcels to people first time round.
He said: “The challenge for us is that sometimes when our posties are delivering our customers are at work, it’s inconvenient for our customers and it’s expensive for us. The more posties handle a parcel, the more expensive it is for us.
“The business belongs to the island, the more efficient we are, either we make more profits for the taxpayer or we can keep our prices down, it’s of benefit to the Island for us to become more efficient.”
Jersey Post already offers a ‘secure drop’ and ‘text and collect’ service to help reduce their costs and help customers get their parcels first time.
During the trial Royal Mail will be delivering on Sunday afternoons to addresses in London and within the M25 motorway. Around 100 delivery offices across the UK will also be open.
