Jersey students make the grade

Thursday 14 August 2014

Jersey’s A-Level results for 2014 show a marginal drop from previous years but pass rates and the number of A* grades are still way ahead of the UK.

The overall pass rate for Jersey’s A-level results released today is 99.1%, just down from last year’s figure of 99.4% and the previous year’s overall pass rate of 99.5%.

A total of 421 Jersey students were entered for 1,317 examinations, with 56.3% of students achieving A*, A or B grades. The overall pass rate for England was 98%, with 52.2% of students there obtaining grades higher than a B; 4.1% less than Jersey students.

The biggest difference was in A* grades, with 10.6% of Jersey students achieving the top grade, compared to just 8.3% in England. Jersey’s results include students who took the International Baccalaureate and their scores have been converted into A-level points.

Education Minister Patrick Ryan said: “These latest figures show that Jersey students have worked hard and performed well in A-levels once again. Jersey’s results closely mirror the trends in the UK.

“I would like to thank all the teachers and parents who supported our young people through these exams and congratulate students on their results. Careers Jersey staff and teachers are available to help any students who feel they need advice or want to discuss their options for work or higher education.”

Students should now contact their universities as soon as possible to confirm places. If people did not achieve the grades they were expecting, they can contact their careers teacher at their own school or college, or Careers Jersey, which is open Monday to Friday between 8.30am and 5.00pm.
