Jersey's Best Workplace: "We are keen to see what is important to our employees"

Monday 11 November 2024

Local businesses are competing for the title of 'Jersey's Best Workplace' as part of a new initiative launched by All Island Media which will help them unlock insights about their teams.

In partnership with CompassJersey, the employee engagement award seeks to identify the gold-standard of employee satisfaction in the island.

To identify a winner, businesses will be benchmarked against each other and receive detailed analysis.

Before the analysis gets underway, Express spoke to several businesses who have decided to take part in the process. Last week, we heard from Randalls, VallaSt Martin's Surgery, Islands Insurance and Whitmill Trust Company.

Today, Diane Sumnall, Operations Director for the Channel Islands at Gr8 Recruitment, explained what the firm hopes to learn from the awards and what a good workplace culture means to them...

What motivated you to take part in the Jersey’s Best Workplace initiative?

We thought it was exciting initiative and are always in interested in our employees insight and input.  We actively encourage feedback but it will also be good to see what we can improve on.

What three words would you describe as the key tenets of a positive company culture and why?

Passionate, inclusive and driven.

Why do you believe fostering a great workplace culture is essential in attracting and retaining top talent in Jersey?

We are always looking at ways to improve the business and at the core of that is the team. A positive culture encourages team engagement and motivation.

When employees feel valued and connected to their workplace, they are more likely to contribute ideas, see them put in place and want to stay with a Senior Leadership Team that listen.

What sort of insights are you most eager to gain from taking part in Jersey’s Best Workplace

We are keen to see what is important to employees, are they looking for longevity and career with the company or do they want to look at different things in the future. Have we got the work/life balance right and how we can achieve a happy workplace for everyone no matter what their role is in the team.

The insights gained can drive informed decision-making, help shape internal practices, and enhance overall workplace culture, ultimately leading to a more engaged and productive workforce

How do you see the results of this initiative shaping your internal practices or influencing your future strategies?

We are looking at this at an excellent way to receive feedback from our team but also to be nominated this can encourage business growth and make it an easy choice for consumers when choosing a recruitment agency.

To be part of this will encourage new candidates and businesses to opt for a different experience when looking for recruitment and career opportunities.
