LibertyBus’s first electric vehicles – which also offer USB electric charge points on every seat – are set to take to the roads tomorrow.
The two new buses, which can travel about 160 miles on a single charge, mark a "significant milestone" in the company's drive to reduce carbon emissions.
Kevin Hart, director of LibertyBus, said: “We are thrilled to introduce electric buses to the fleet.
“This represents a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to sustainable travel.
"The adoption of electric buses not only aligns with our environmental responsibilities but also enhances the overall travel experience for our passengers.”
As well as reducing the fleet’s overall carbon emissions, the buses will have a range of features, including:
USB electric charge points on every seat.
Passenger announcement system to inform customers of upcoming stops and any road diversions.
Passenger information displays which in the future will provide details of bus departures from Liberation Station as well as flight departures from Jersey Airport.
A induction loop system for people with supports improved hearing and communication for people with a hearing impairment.
Camera monitor system mirrors to reduce the risk of collisions in Jersey’s narrower roads.
Infrastructure Minister Tom Binet said: “I am really pleased with the progress that has been made to try and find suitable electric buses to join our island fleet.
“Successfully bringing these buses into service is the culmination of hard work and perseverance to overcome some of the challenges we have in Jersey with our narrow roads and I am looking forward to seeing them serve the island.”
